Welcome to Part Five

Welcome to part five of our information sharing series where we provide you with detailed information about AGUK’s Homestay Host services. Whilst this may not apply to all of you (based on your packages) at the present time, there could always be a need in the future for an unexpected homestay arrangement, which we are always happy to assist with and arrange.

Homestays with our Homestay Hosts

Academic Guardians UK (AGUK) offers a comprehensive homestay program designed to provide a nurturing and supportive home environment for international students. Our homestay services include:

  1. Carefully Selected Homestay Host Families: We meticulously select and vet homestay host families to ensure they provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for your child. Homestay host families undergo thorough background checks and are chosen based on their location, home and ability to offer a caring and supportive atmosphere.
  2. Full Board Accommodation: Our homestay services include full board accommodation, where your child will receive nutritious meals, comfortable living conditions, and the opportunity to integrate into family life in the UK. *In order to assist our hosts, it is important that a diet form is completed prior to the arrangement. This form is passed onto our hosts who can then plan meals & snacks that your child(ren) will eat & enjoy.
  3. Cultural Integration: Staying with a homestay host family provides your child with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in British culture and improve their English language skills through daily interactions.
  4. 24/7 Support: Homestay host families are supported by our guardianship team, ensuring that your child has access to assistance and advice at any time. We maintain regular contact with host families and students to monitor well-being and address any concerns promptly.
  5. Safety and Well-being: The safety and well-being of your child are our top priorities. Our team conducts regular visits and maintains close communication with homestay host families to ensure that your child is happy and well-cared-for.

The Matching Process

We pride ourselves on our thorough and experienced matching process, ensuring that each student is paired with a homestay family that best suits their individual needs and preferences. Our matching process is a 2-way procedure where we match both the preferences of our students and our hosts. This matching process has resulted in overwhelming success, with hundreds of positive testimonials from both students and parents. Our current placement rate for the previous academic year is 98%.

To ensure the best suited homestay hosts are available for the times requested, we strongly urge parents to provide ample advanced notice of homestay requests. Given that many homestay families work with multiple agencies, early requests are crucial for securing placements with the most ideally suited family.

Additionally, to guarantee continuity and stability of the homestay experience, priority is given to those students who request continued homestay throughout all planned out-of-school breaks. This continuity helps students form stronger bonds with their host families, contributing to a more enriching and stable experience.

It is important to highlight that homestay arrangements fees (excluding accommodation and transport) are included in the premium and standard package and can be facilitated on the Lite Package with additional fees then being applied.

Homestay Fees

Homestay fees are paid on a per day basis, for example a typical exeat weekend (Friday & Saturday & Sunday) will be charged at 3 days. All homestay fees will be paid via AGUK office and you will be invoiced to top up your deposit at the end of every term. You or your children will never be asked to pay homestay hosts directly.

We are committed to providing exceptional care and support to ensure that your child’s experience at their chosen homestay is positive and enriching. To help us maintain this we ask that your child provide candid feedback on their homestay experience. Scoring 1. The welcome, 2. The family, 3. The food, 4. The arrangement and 5. The experience as a whole. We want to improve our last year’s record of 98% placement success at the end of the year. Your input will assist us with this.

Homestay Etiquette

Our creative team have designed a 2-page infographic specifically for our students, which we will send prior to the homestay. This outlines the conduct and behaviour that we expect whilst staying at one of our homestays. It would be really helpful if you encourage your children to read this through thoroughly.

We are confident that given the positive feedback we receive and the close working relationships we have with our hosts, your children will be placed in a warm, welcoming environment where they will feel relaxed and at a home away from home.
